Art Created Pre-Quarantine but Posted to Raise Spirits During the 2020 Quarantine
Art of the Day, Day 19: “The Season Tree,” Linda “Rainbow” Westlund, who adds this quote from Gibran: “If you must measure time into seasons, let each season encircle all seasons, and let today embrace the past with remembrance and the future with longing.” Oil on canvas, 1983, prints available!
Art of the Day, Day 18: “Myan” by artist Rusty Leach, who has spent many days in the past at The Millet House. Presently our doors are shut, of course, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But we will see Rusty again sometime.
Art of the Day, Day 17: “Heart for the World” by artist Ruth Kyanite, who adds, “Share the Love!”
Happy Easter! Art of the Day, Day 16. “Sun Rays” – another by Susan Heffernan, healthcare worker and photographer.
Art of the Day: Day 15. “Sunset of Faith” by Susan Heffernan, a healthcare worker and also a photographer. Susan adds, “Traditional 35mm film. Developed & printed from a negative exactly as I saw it, with no alterations. A true photograph!”
Art of the Day, Day 14: Shoutout to Leslie M. Kay, a
healthcare worker and also an artist. Here, her “Dappled Circus Pony.”
Art of the Day, Day 13: “Apache Kids Dreams,” one in a series by Apache artist Abeni Jackson.
Art of the Day, Day 12: “Out Numbered” by Heather Smith-Gearns. Heather is one of the funniest, wittiest and downright nicest people ever. She can make us all laugh with a perfectly straight face. At times her humor escapes into her art!
Art of the Day, Day 11. “Crown Dancer” by Sam Itza. Sam reinterprets his Apache culture for his generation.
Art of the Day, Day 10: “Angels to Guide You” by Dori Jung, who adds, “While processing my sadness for those dying alone and their grieving loved ones, I painted this little study during the night. My prayers are with you.”
Art of the Day, Day 9. Arizona skies are often amazing, even more so before a storm. Here, another interpretation of skies stormy yet deeply calming: “The Storm is Coming”, Andie Olson
Art of the Day, Day 8: Inner Peace, by Tara Kosciukiewicz. Tara spends as much time as possible hiking in her beloved Sonoran desert. Here, she brings us an interpretation of what she sees.
Art of the Day, Day 7. One more in this group of circus-themed images: “Big Top” – a painted drumhead by Tara Kosciukiewicz!
March 26 Art of the Day, Day 6: “Balancing the Circus of Confusion” by artist Toni Miller. Life is confusing and may feel like a circus. Our little clown, though, finds balance in the midst of chaos.
March 25: Art of the Day, Day 5. “Dazed Lights,” by a young artist who goes by R.S. Mardina. She explains that the painting illustrates a circus acrobat focusing on performing in spite of the bright lights: confusion yes, but total focus on what must be done in spite of confusion.
March 24: Art of the Day, Day 4! A wonderful tile by artist Jaime Glasser. This one is titled “Turn” and yes we are all turning at the moment, turning in new directions.
March 23: Art of the Day, day 3 of many. Artist Vanessa Ortiz Zapata is inspired by the incredible beauty of the desert. She spends time there almost every day, and the images that result from this immersion in nature are spectacular. Here, a recent work depicting the Superstition Mountains.
March 22 Art of the day! Skye Day’s prescient painting, “Screen Door,” is from a day in which the news led her to feel she could not bear to open her door. When she finally did, she left the screen door closed. You may be able to relate.

March 21: Beginning the daily art post with the incomparable Liza Bell, an established and well-known Scottsdale artist – and our friend and supporter. Liza has gifted us with a full set of her artist-enhanced Angels series. The Millet House plans to feature them in our December Art Collective show, which will take place in one way or another, probably without the planned food truck – but who knows! Anyway, here’s a sneak peek at one in the series. May Liza’s angels bring you a moment of peace and joy.

Worth visiting to see: this full size handmade quilt by Mary Thomas, commemorating migrant children who died crossing the desert. Each of the children has been given a square with name and age.
