Anshu Priya | Artist Statement

I have been painting full time for the last one and a half years. My watercolor and mixed media paintings depict the everyday life, travel experiences and relationships. I developed basic painting skills at the Burlingame, California Parks and Recreation Center classes and then honed them at workshops conducted by various artists like Elio Camacho, John Muir Laws and John Erwin. My instinct and intuition guide my art in terms of the medium as well as the subjects I choose. I am enjoying getting integrated into the thriving art scene in Arizona

My Art Experience during Covid -19

Anshu Priya

“Unlike many who used their time to take up a new hobby, plant a garden, or even declutter their homes, all I managed to do during this pandemic was to binge on COVID -19 data, and make some art. Both were empowering and therapeutic. The George Floyd tragedy shook me to my bones, and some of it is reflected in my paintings.  Embracing a slower pace of life in general, there were weeks when I painted incessantly, but then there were days when nothing worked. I was also grateful for the art tours, discussions, and demos that artists and museums were offering virtually, most of them for free.

“Art continues to be a silent, soulful companion during this anomalous time, when unsettling events seem to overtake me and my loved ones.”
